Smokey Eye...

I always get asked how to do a smokey eye.
It's one make up look that works on everyone and can be worn with pretty much anything any time of the day.
As we all know everyones eyes are different and you need to adapt the 'smokey eye' to your face and your eye shape.
It's great for an effortless sexy feel, I love it with a little gloss for an inky messier look, and it's great at night.

The basis of a smokey eye is that it's darker at the lashline and blends away to nothing - like smoke.
It's really easy to do and you can do it with all sorts of products.
However you do need to decide on a few things
First - Colours
- A classic smokey eye is blacks but you can choose whatever colour you want to wear, id still start with black but then add your colour, navy works really well, deep purple, or a gorgeous cranberry? - whatever you want.
Second - Shape
- Depending on your eye shape you may want quite a round shape, or more elongated, not to much by the bridge of the nose, the same amount underneath as on top etc etc
Thirdly - Density
- You could have quite a heavy smoke or something a little more on the lashline and just blended out and up and of course anything in between.

In these images I went for a rounded, heavy smokey eye, and stuck with black to keep it really simple.

When you're doing a heavy or dark eye make up I suggest doing the eyes first and then the rest of your make up after just so it's easier to tidy up any mess.

It's always a good idea to prep the eye with a primer or base (especially if you are using powder shadows)
-I started with NARS Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base, which I took right up to the brow
-I then blended the NARS Soft Touch Eye Shadow Pencil in Aigle Noir all over the lid and up to the  brow, reapply this at the lash line for darkness and take it under the eye. Blend all the edges as you go.
(Here's where you'd add another colour if you were going to, I'm not.)
-I Lined the inner rim with NARS Eye Liner Pencil in Black Moon
-Layer up the lashes with NARS Larger Than Life Volumising Mascara
And because the eye is so strong you want to keep everything else quite low key, the brow may still need a little defining, so I opted for a NARS Brow Pencil and a comb through.

Now you can tidy up under the eye if you need to, with a cotton bud dipped in cleanser.
-To keep the skin looking really perfect I used NARS Pore Refining Primer and a thin layer of NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moister SPF 30- You really want the skin to look flawless with this eye make up so spot conceal and powder where needed.
-I lightly contoured my models face with a NARS Cream Blush in Constantinople and pressed NARS Satin Lipstick in Honolulu Honey on to her lips - remember we want the rest of the make up to be low key, Honolulu Honey is a beautiful flesh toned beige perfect for this kind of look.

Hope that's helpful, send me any questions
